In the spring of 1916, although the front had moved deeply into the Trentino territory, the Military Engineer Corps were performing important defensive and road system enhancements in Contrada Busellati.

On 15th June, nine civil workers were killed by one of the first air raids made by the Austrians during the Strafexpedition in the First World War.

In February 1917 the area underwent major works aimed at the construction of a third line of resistance, which developed crosswise to the Leogra and the Agno valleys.

From spring 1917, following the directives of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the two strongholds were included in the “Ortogonale 1” strategic line, and towards the end of the war they featured small- and medium- caliber artillery stations and cave shelters.
