Al Pasubio

On the way to the Pasubio Massif

The Ortogonale 1 strategic line running along the mountain ridge was crossed by several roads, which played a fundamental role for the movement of troops. The defence and control of the main road system was based on the following passes: Xon, Zovo, Priabona, and Torreselle, all of which were protected at the sides by artillery and machine-gun stations.

Throughout the war, the Xon Pass road was used by the infantry and Alpine companies going up towards the Pasubio and Vallarsa battlefields (after resting briefly in the Agno valley) by the new roads and mule tracks built after the Strafexpedition.
