There were also some leisure venues for the troops, and a “soldier hall” where the soldiers coming down from the front were assisted.

From June 1917 it was also the seat of the Military Court of the 5th Army Corps, and of a military hospital.

In 1916, having overcome the risk of invasion faced during the Strafexpedition, the Malo territory underwent an important fortification program, which included multiple strategic lines connected to a network of roads. The 1st Army Command designed a strategic defensive line which, from the Mt. Civillina – Mt. Enna transversal line, followed the orographic right of the Leogra stream until Magrè, then ran along the hillfoot from San Vito di Leguzzano to Costabissara.

This line, afterwards called the line of the plain o line of the residential areas, comprised the Montecio and Santa Libera defensive systems, and the cave shelters at the hillfoot towards San Tomio. The covered trench in reinforced concrete built in the Calcara area was also part of this line.

The building of a strategic line on the crest of the Agno-Leogra ridgeline began only in the spring of 1917, by order of the General Staff of the Army. A second intermediate line had been built in the same period on the hillside of the eastern slope, up to the top of Mt. Piano. The Priabona Pass was also equipped with artillery stations and in-cave deposits.

Malo was also the seat of a military hospital and, from June 1917, of the Military Court of the 1st Army.

At the end of 1917, after the defeat of Caporetto, Villa Clementi became the headquarters of the Command of the French 23rd Division. Then, in 1918, the French troops were replaced by some units of the British Army.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h1″ text_size=”h1″]Montecio di Malo[/vc_custom_heading][vc_custom_heading]The line of the plain[/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]Since the beginning of the First World War the Malo territory, […]

["post-195","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
